Give them a sense of their place in history

This could mean giving them a history book, a visit to a royal venue such as a palace or a castle.    Most of us have certain days we remember during our lives when family and friends came together to celebrate a national occasion - and Royal Weddings are very special affairs, as was the Queen's Coronation.  One nice idea could be to ask grandparents or great grand children to tell children how they celebrated any of these events.  Some will have watched them on television for the first time.  This can give children a sense of continuity and stability.
