They have both aplenty, and lots of historic gardens too! For instance, the gardens at Wrest Park in Bedfordshire are an amazing showcase of 300 years of landscape design. They have 90 acres, and you can see the French, Dutch, Italian and English landscaping styles side by side.
There's the Elizabethan Garden at Kenilworth Castle in Warwickshire, which was created for Queen Elizabeth I by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester. At the time, he was still hoping to marry her.
Or the house and gardens at Audley End, set in a landscape with stunning views of the Essex countryside, where you can stroll across rolling parkland designed by the famous 'Capability' Brown to the Elysian Garden, with its elegant 'Tea House' bridge designed by Robert Adam.
There are others too, a top ten, including Charles Darwin's home, Down House, in Kent. Here Darwin came up with many of his groundbreaking ideas on evolution and natural selection. You can see 12 of his experiments in the grounds, and also his greenhouses.
