Bear Books for Children

Bear books for children

Bears hit a soft spot in many of us and did you know that there are eight species of bear?  Given their cuddly faces and furry bodies, bears can be a great way to introduce children to animals, especially as many children have a teddy bear.

So here are some books about bears for children - some are for children of all ages who love bears!

 Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne - brilliant!

Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne

Three Cheers for Pooh! For who?  For Pooh!

I just adore Winnie-the-Pooh.   He's an absolute legend, and we hear all about his adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood with his friends.   Pooh gets stuck i a tight place, nearly catches a Woozle and goes off to find the North Pole (a friend of mine was a member of the Winnie the Pooh society at Exeter University and they used to set off as a group on such a mission).  Why not go and play pooh sticks after you've read the stories?  For £9.75 from Hive.co.uk

 The Last Polar Bears

The Last Polar Bears
by Harry Horse

This is a wonderful book and adults can enjoy it as much as children!

Grandfather heads off on an expedition to find the Last Polar Bears.  His dog Roo goes with him.  Roo has very strong views and she is full of character.  Off they go on a ship called Unsinkable to find polar bears.  They also come across wolves and a penguin.   The story is very funny and it's told through a series of letters to a child.  For  ages 7 to 9;  mind you, I loved it and I'm nowhere near that age.  For £6.89 from Hive.co.uk

Moon Bear

Moon Bear
By Gill Lewis

Tam is sent to work at a bear farm in the city when he's just 12 years old.  He feels very alone and he hates the way the bears are treated - but if he speaks up he will lose his job.  If he loses his job, he can't send money home - and then what will his family do?  A sick cub arrives and Tam nurses the cub back to health secretly.  They develop an unbreakable bond and Tam vows to return the cub to the wild - but how will they ever find a way to be free?  This is a powerful and moving story of hope and bravery against huge odds.   Every should read this book to find out about bear bile farming - and that you can indeed make a difference.  For 9 to 11 year olds but I think it's for adults as well - it sends out important messages. For £7.49 from Hive.co.uk

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

 A Bear Called Paddington

A Bear Called Paddington
by Michael Bond

Paddington!  What a loveable bear!  He came all the way from Darkest Peru and the Brown family met him on Paddington station.  Of course, the story has been made into a film - two in fact - and he's touched the hearts of people all ages with his good intentions and misadventures.   Here's to Paddington!  For £6.89 from Hive.co.uk
