Halloween Gifts

Halloween is on the way (the 31^st October, oh where has this year gone?!!) and with it the chance to get together with friends and family and do some trick or treating.  

The decorations for Halloween are never-ending with lots of witches, pumpkins, cats and bats, ghosts, spooooooky ways and fun!  

There are lots of Halloween events taking place – English Heritage have events around England over half term, quite a few of them are holding a Great Pumpkin Party, and there’s creepy castles to visit and spooky tales.  

So where did Halloween originate?  English Heritage have lots of information about the history of Halloween and trick or treating (which they say, probably had its origins in early Medieval pageantry.   They’ve also information on the history of witchcraft.

There's storytime, crafts, costume contests, ghastly ghost tours,
a spooky train ride, wildlife gravestones and more,
from 24 October to 1 November 2026!   BOO!!!! 

You could also look at National Trust properties, many of which have Halloween events taking place. And the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) has help on the best pumpkins to grow for eating and carving!  The RHS gardens (Wisley, Harlow Carr, Bridgewater, Rosemoor and Hyde Hall) feature pumpkins, too - just take a look at these!  They also have picked out seven plants which fit the spooky Halloween theme to inspire you! 

If the weather is foul, English Heritage also have some things you can have a go at, such as making a Halloween mask, Halloween, colouring, making a Halloween dinner, making a Halloween spooky castle lantern and discovering why people feared witchcraft and why we carve pumpkins at Halloween.   Find out more here
